Does the IGLRC provide funding to attend the conference?

Unfortunately we do not provide funding to attend our conference. We encourage you to look for funding in your department, university, or consider funding opportunities offered by your home country or the EU.

Do I have to submit my paper and on what date?

Yes, presenters have to submit their papers in advance. All papers must be submitted by 14th March 2016. This gives your panel chair, the discussant and other presenters in your panel an opportunity to read your work beforehand in order to provoke a better discussion.

How much does registration cost?

Registration costs vary.

  • PhD students:
    • Non-KCL presenter or attendee: £50
    • KCL presenter or attendee: a specific discount applies. Please contact the registration officers to request the discount code.
  • LLM or other Masters students (KCL or otherwise): £30. Please contact the registration officers to request the discount code.

When does registration open?

Registration opens on 1st December 2015, the link will be available via the registration page.

I am an LLM student. Can I attend?

We have reserved 50 places for LLM and other Masters students who are interested in a specific topic being discussed or who are considering doing a PhD. The first 50 students to complete registration by paying on the KCL estore (see link on registration page) will be able to attend.

I have been selected to present a poster. Where can I find guidance?

The following resources provide general advice on producing an academic poster. This is a non-exhaustive list of resources, and presenters may use alternative approaches if they wish.

I have special requirements (food or physical). Who should I contact?

We will do our best to accommodate you – please contact the registration officers .

How long will I have to speak for?

We expect each presentation to be around 20 minutes long.

Is it ok if I co-present with the co-author of my paper?

Yes, but both presenters will need to pay the full registration fee and must be current PhD candidates. Joint presentations must adhere to the 20 minute time allocation.

Can I use a PowerPoint presentation and if so do I have to send it before the Conference?

Yes – we have all the facilities so you can use PowerPoints. You do not have to send it in advance, however we suggest that you both save it to your USB and send it to your email so you can retrieve if your USB fails. We cannot be held responsible for technical difficulties.

When will I know whether I have been selected to participate in the Conference?

It takes time to process every application. We will send emails on 5th February 2015 to notify applicants of the outcome of the selection process.

If I have been rejected, can you provide me with feedback for why I was not chosen?

Unfortunately, given the number of abstracts we receive and the blind peer review process we are unable to give any feedback on why specific abstracts were rejected. We apologise in advance for this.

Can I register for just one day?

No. You have to register for both days and pay the full price.

Can I register late (i.e. on the day of the Conference)? (This also concerns people who cannot make an online payment for some reason)

You can do so in exceptional circumstances. You will need to speak to our registrations team to arrange this with us; the registration fee will be £55.

How long does the paper have to be?

We ask for papers of 6,000-7,000 words (including footnotes, excluding bibliography).

Will my paper be published?

We do not undertake any sort of publication commitment.
